What matters most? A’s or lesson?
Friday, July 7th, 2006Misconception created by some of the parents have lead to this kind of problem; students who lack of confidence, experience in real life situation, communication skills…" If you study hard, you can get good grades in your exam. When you get good grades, you can be a successful and rich person. Be a doctor, lawyer or engineer!" the parents told their children, with hopes…(Kamon aaa…)
Of course it is not wrong for parents to have such hopes to see their children succeed. Their unsuitable approach is to be blamed, 24-7 learning process at school, tuition centre, personal tutors and many more classes. Spending most of the time learning, students do not have any free time to do some leisure activities; meeting friends, sports, or any outdoor activities…
Thank god, the Ministry of Edcation has set that students in schools should join co - curricular activities. Meaning, at least two hours a week, students can be freed from the piles of books waiting them at home.
But still even if there are co- curricular activities, sometimes the teachets in - charge are not enthusiastic to carry out these activities in some schools. Some teachers themselves ‘advise’ their students for not wasting time actively in clubs, societies or any non educational activities. They think it is for the best of the students to get all As in examination and as a student one should not do anything else apart from study.
There is actually a lot of contributors to these kind of problems; all As. However, these factors are the most obvious things in Malaysia. So what is the future for those who do not have the lady luck on their side to get all As?
Aih…beyond straight As….
